Dallas, TX // Travel Guide
The second largest American state, Texas, is an underrated place. Fun fact, my beautiful wife used to live in Dallas way back in 2015. Things have changed, and DTX is on the up and up from eats to coffee and more. And trust us when we say, it really is bigger in Texas, y’all!
Things To Do :
Trinity Groves
In the downtown corridor, you’ll find the new, hustling and bustling, Trinity Groves. This area has an outdoor/indoor market with a bevy of incredible food options, and a park with cool skyline views that are among our favorite in Texas!
Deep Ellum
Deep Ellum has an arts and food scene that rivals any major city in America. Like many things in greater Dallas, because of the huge population influx, this area is undergoing renewal, growth, and expansion. Once a somehow forgotten contingent of the city, Deep Ellum is now a millennial focused hot spot for foods, arts, coffee and shops.
Walk Highland Park
We love to walk on vacation. In fact, we typically rack up a minimum of 5 miles a day ( more typically, 10 when Hannah has her way!) when the weather allows. Our two favorite Dallas walks are Highland Park and the Katy Trails. The houses and architecture in HP are unbelievable, unique, and and so much fun to take in.
Katy Trails
The Katy Trails run throughout the city of Dallas, with several areas to stop off and grab a drink, coffee, or shop. We love to hop on the trails in Uptown, cold brew in hand, and walk to lunch near Highland Park! A local favorite is the Katy Trail Ice House. You can enjoy a burger and a beverage and hang in this cool Turtle Creek establishment. Excuse this awesome photo.
Coffee
Houndstooth Coffee
Houndstooth has a few locations around greater DTX, and has an array of options for all levels of coffee lovers. The aesthetics in this place are modern, sleek and minimal. The location we went to was conveniently located right off the highway, and had a really cool outside sitting area to enjoy your coffee. Hannah says: try the Japanese iced coffee.
Katy Coffee Lab
Tucked off the Katy Trail in Uptown, this place is a spacious, high-design space that has fantastic cold brew!
Merit Coffee Co.
A new coffee spot in Deep Ellum (though the have other locations in Austin and San Antonio), Merit is bright, airy and beautiful. They also had A+ coffee, but more, it was the kind of coffee shop we just wanted to hang out in. Often on our road trips, we grab and go with our coffee, embarking on walk. Occasionally, we'll be in a shop where we just want to spend time. Merit is one of those places!
Good Eats
Dallas Farmer's Market
One of the best Farmer’s markets we’ve seen. DFM's features an outdoor space with TONS of vendors with various seasonal products and crafts.
Pecan Lodge
One of the best BBQ experiences in America, Pecan Lodge has a line basically all day, every day. Try the HOT mess with their brisket. After taking your first bite, you'll forget that you waited in a Texas sized line for it. We are not "wait in line" people, often bypassing a place where we can't get it quickly, but I am so glad we waited for Pecan Lodge!
Velvet Taco
It wouldn't be Texas without tacos...and ask any local and you'll find a myriad of great recommendations for taco spots. That said, these tacos were bomb. Velvet Taco is a fun, fast paced environment as well. Try the falafel taco for an underrated, but exquisite experience!
AvoEatery
A new restaurant in the market at Trinity Groves with both indoor and outdoor seating, avoeatery uses avocado in almost all dishes and had a wide variety on the menu. A new restaurant that is worth a stop!
Eatzi's
An Italian market near uptown, Eatzi's is a great place to create your own salad, sandwich or to purchase one of their many specialities. The variety is a bit overwhelming, but altogether amazing! Pack a picnic and head to Klyde Warren Park to get downtown views and flavor!
Thanks so much for visiting DTX with us!
As always, travel well, my friends!
