Full Kitchen Reveal with Sources!

This kitchen has made me a homebody. I want to spend all of my days curled up at the dining table with a cup of hot tea and my laptop. Bliss. We changed the ENTIRE layout of this kitchen. There was a wall between the dining room and kitchen (where that little 24" wall is next to the open shelves is). There were two peninsulas (one where the current one is, and one to the right of the sink). It was a small, crowded, dysfunctional U-shaped kitchen. Where the fridge is now, there was a door leading outside, with a second postage-stamp sized dining space (why?). Along with reworking the layout, we added TONS of windows. We kept the original pocket door. I adore the mid century wood; it matches our dining table beautifully. (Although, we rarely leave it closed). I designed with kitchen with matte black slab KUNGSBACKA cabinets from IKEA for the majority of the space, with white VEDDINGE cabinets under the hood. The quartz has a subtle veining to it, like a clean marble. After much debate, I decided to go with 2x8 matte white subway tile for the backsplash, installed in a vertical offset to create some interest without being loud or busy. The hardwood floors are a sawn face white oak by Shaw, and they are TO DIE FOR. The black and white elements of the kitchen balance perfectly with the warm, earthy, oak floors. I'll do a full post about these floors....because they are the love of my life.

Obviously, we added three windows over the sink. I knew without question that I wanted a sink surrounded by windows. To minimize the height difference between the dining and kitchen windows, we tiled around the kitchen windows to create a visual barrier. I have ordered a brass curtain rod for the dining as well, which will be hung high like the other, to further balance the height difference. This sink faucet is my FAV. I have ordered it four times! (For various projects). It's a great price for matte black.

We removed the exterior door, and actually took the window out and installed it in the dining room! That tall cabinet next to the fridge has 15" soft close drawers for food storage. We wired electrical in the shelves above the drawers to house our microwave, Keurig, and blender. To the left of fridge is a hidden trash and dishwasher! I'll be sure to share ALL the details of the IKEA cabinets soon. The 13" black pulls are a dream at 2 for $10.99 - Honestly, I still can't believe that price. We ordered a counter depth fridge (I always recommend - makes a huge difference) by Whirlpool, with a matching range.

We have yet to stain the floating shelves, which will be the same hue as the oak flooring. We custom built this hood using this hood insert after watching this tutorial. I am SO GLAD we did this hood. It's a show stopper. Modern, unique, and dramatic. I also love that we could change it up - paint it white or gray, wrap it in wood, or tile it (I will likely add some fun tile in a couple of years!).

Our dining room is still missing a lot of details, so I'm only sharing a teaser for now. For those of you asking, here is our dining table. We went with the 60-80", here we have the leaf installed in this image. We also bought these chairs (we've played board games at this table until late hours of the night, and the chairs are very comfortable!). I couldn't find stools that I loved, so I bought these stools for a temporary solution. They were incredibly inexpensive and we needed something to sit on while I figured out what stool I wanted to invest in. I had plans to cover them with upholstery, but surprisingly, I fell in love with them as is! Ironically, I get SO many questions about them online! We love them and will be keeping them! This dining light fixture is another fan favorite. Uniquely Scandinavian, and the inside of the light is lined with brass! The faux fig (similar here) adds some color. (I have yet to install appropriate curtains, and are missing rugs).
