Lakehouse Bedroom Reveal

FIRST LAKEHOUSE BLOG POST IS HERE!! We bought this house around Christmas and began renovating in February. It's been mad chaos since. FINALLY, it time to slow down and enjoy our new home as we tackle the final details. Five months of being covered in paint and sawdust every evening and weekend, and we are thrilled to be nearing the finish line. We are also excited to have the time to share ALL the renovation details with you all on the blog! First #HTlakehouse blog post (of many), commence!

This is our fifth home. We seem to always deem our bedroom last priority when renovating/decorating. For some reason, we've never poured a lot of effort into our bedroom. With this house, it was the very first room to be completed, and we adore it! When we bought this house, we dreaded the bedroom size. It's our smallest bedroom (and closet) yet! We thought this room would drive us crazy, Ironically, now that it is done, it's one of our favorite rooms in the house! The size doesn't bother us at all....and because we downsized so much moving into the tiny condo, we didn't have any trouble fitting all of our clothes into the small closet! It is our favorite bedroom yet. Proof that it's not about size or extravagance, it's about how personal, and cozy, you can make a space!
Let's start with some before and afters!

Let's talk ship lap! The previous owners had done some funky wall treatments in this room. Each wall had a different texture. Our options were to replace the drywall or cover with shiplap. Because we were chasing a beachy vibe, shiplap was the obvious choice. I love how the vertical pattern accentuates the ceiling height. Ty and I did this ourselves, and had a blast! We used this tongue and groove shiplap from Home Depot. We'll share a post all about the DIY shiplap soon!

The oak flooring makes a huge impact in the space. Warm hues, knots, and mineral streaks add character to a white room. This is a real oak engineered hardwood called Chloe by DuChateau. I could not be more in love with these floors! 

Downsizing from a king mattress (after four years) to a queen was a difficult decision. We technically could have fit a king, but it would have made the room feel much smaller. After two weeks sleeping on a queen, we are happy to report that the adjustment has not been hard at all! We went to Rested Pillow (the most lovely local mattress provider!) and picked out a new, locally made, mattress. Let us tell you, even though the mattress is smaller, it is still a HUGE upgrade! We've both never slept better! More on that later.

Initially, we ordered this bed for the master bedroom. I had my eye on it for years. When it came in, we did not love the wood tones next to our oak floor and decided to put it upstairs in the guest bedroom instead. Eager to get the room done, Ty and I drove to IKEA that evening on a whim (2.5 hours away) to pick up this bed, which I have also loved for a while. OH MY LANTA it's adorable. The beachy, Scandinavian vibe fits the room perfectly! Score.

The nightstands are from the Ada house (we may replace them with something that has a little more storage). This linen comforter that I recently purchased is AMAZING! Here at the Jansma household, we prefer comforters to duvets (I know, pretty uncool for a "designer"). We used to have a duvet cover and it drove us nuts how the inside comforter would get all bunched up at the bottom. It can be hard to find attractive comforters, especially in linen...another reason why this one is amazing! I bought another set for the guest bedroom. These sheets are butter! All of the linen layers feel so luxurious. 

We've installed this fan in several bedrooms. Because of our ceiling height, we needed a flush mount ceiling fan, which can also be difficult to find. This one is understated, perfect for a room that doesn't have 10' ceilings! It's also 44" wide, which is ideal for a smaller bedroom (versus 52"). 

Lastly, the beloved Frame TV. We loved it so much in the living room that we bought another for this room. We've ordered the white frame, too (which clicked on via magnet). I wrote a whole blog post about it here. We have the 43" in this room.
