I Guess We’re Flipping A House, Again!

Welp, here we go again! A few weeks ago, Ty showed a house in East Grand Rapids to a homebuyer he is working with. She decided not to pursue the home. A few days later, Ty showed me the house and said, "This would make a good flip....wanna?" I took a glance at the listing photos and said, "Sure." Honestly, it was about that short of a conversation. I actually can't believe that we are doing this. We had just been talking about how much we love new construction...so predictable, clean, and comparatively, seamless. Renovating is messy and full of unexpected twists and turns. Ha!

We had not been searching for a flip. AT ALL. We just bought and furnished a cabin across the country, had a baby, started building a house, and are now getting our current home (the Holland cottage) ready to sell. Managing the new build has been a heavy load and we've already got our plates full, overflowing, really! Yet, something about this house tugged at our hearts and we both knew, shortly after discussing it, that we were going to flip it. It's a beautiful home in a wonderful location...it just needs a little love! It does already have a lovely turf backyard and gazebo that we can definitely see ourselves enjoying during work breaks. We are going to do a vast majority of the work ourselves as well, which is exciting! Demolishing, painting, tiling, and more...seeing tangible progress on a project is both satisfying and a stress-reliever. We can't wait!

East Grand Rapids is about an hour from where we live, so it's possible we may even live in the flip for a few weeks while working on it as to eliminate the commute and get it done in a accordance with our schedule. Once the flip is completed, we will move into the new build. That said, Brooks will have lived in three homes by his first birthday. You can see in the photo below that he is isn't quite sure about these crazy house-flipping parents of his! He raises some valid questions!

We will share a before tour soon, and our design plan following. This home is actually in really great shape; it just needs cosmetic updating and of course, more windows! We can't wait to get started!
