New Build Kids' Bath Design
The kids' bath shower tile installation is occurring in less than two weeks! EEEEK! The excitement is ramping up. We can't wait to move on in this fall! You better believe we talk about it every single day.
The kids' bath, which will also function as the guest bath until we finish the basement next year, is located upstairs next to the kids' rooms. We want this room to be classic and neutral, feeling versatile for both kids and guests. Here are some of the bathrooms on Pinterest and Instagram that inspired this space! Click images for sources.
One of the first things I selected for the room was the vanity. I love how much warmth a wood vanity can bring to a bathroom. I also love the off-centered sink, creating more counter space to the right, and allowing for additional drawer space (which I definitely prefer to doors in a vanity!).
Because we weren't able to fit a free standing tub in the primary bathroom, we opted to go with a large, luxurious tub in this bathroom. This 6' tub is extra long and deep. I had originally selected Zellige tile for this room, but last minute switched to this ceramic tile to save some money, which will be installed in a vertical offset pattern. To add a unique touch, the edges of the shower tile, which would often be finished with bullnose, will be finished with brass Schluter. We splurged on the plumbing fixtures, installing Kohler Purist faucets in this bathroom and throughout the house.
I had a hard time selecting the floor; I didn't nail that down until the very last minute! While my preference would have been real stone (likely marble), I didn't want to have to worry about staining (especially while raising a little boy!). I did not want to go with a large format tile (12x24). A brick shape would have been too similar to the shower wall tile. Ultimately, I narrowed it down to a mosaic. After perusing images of mosaics on Pinterest, I was continually drawn to a simple penny tile with a contrasting grout. We decided to go with an off-white glossy penny and will be selecting a mid tone beige/taupe grout.
We'll accessorize with pretty towels, amber soap bottles, a vintage rug, and some artwork. I am also going to DIY a floor-to-ceiling shower curtain (see top Pinterest/Instagram images for inspiration). Cleaning the glass shower door in our previous home drove me crazy. No matter what "internet hack" I tried, I could not get it to look clean. I'm hoping a custom pleated linen curtain will both look great and be less maintenance.
