Lake House Guest Bedroom
Yesterday, we shared the completed bunk room, which is adjacent to the upstairs guest bedroom. Originally, this was going to be our office. Long story short, we decided to put our office in the bunk room as we'd rather work in the room facing the lake! Last minute, we threw a queen bed into this room and it became another space for guests. The queen bed fits perfectly, and we love having a separate space that sleep 4 (perfect for family and friends with little kiddos!). Our home's bed per square foot ratio is pretty sweet. Currently, we have two queens, two twins, and one king in this little abode, ha! That's a lot of beds for a family of two; but remember, we are designing this space as a cottage!

As you read in this post, we painted the existing knotty pine Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore (full blog post about painting paneling coming soon--let's start by saying it was an adventure..). Then, we installed lush, soft carpet, added new baseboard, and swapped out the dated light fixtures for something fun and nautical!
This room got it's theme from the large Michigan map, which set the tone for the space. A few weeks ago, just after Ty and I moved in, our business partners and mentors, Keith and Jen, came to visit from out of state. It was their first time in Michigan! They stayed with us for a few days before we headed up North in an RV. At a restaurant in Traverse City, we had admired some art hanging on the walls. These maps made out of wood, carved according to the depths of Lake Michigan, mesmerized us. The next morning, while perusing a boutique in Leland, Blue Boat coffee in hand, we found a few pieces created by the same artist. Jen surprised us by purchasing one as a house warming gift! It is our favorite piece of art in the home. We love decorating with sentimental items, and this piece is one we will always cherish as it possesses such a fond memory, and reminds us of some of our favorite people who have made an immense impact on our lives.
I found the map on Etsy! Link here!
We wanted this room to feel nautical and cozy, inviting, and reminiscent of coastal Michigan, setting the tone for our guests from out of town. The Michigan pennant is from a local boutique in Grand Rapids, the Counting House. The print in the middle is a picture I took in Mackinaw Island the morning after we were gifted the map! The water was exceptionally clear that day. The last map, which is a temporary place filler (until we find something "Michigan"), is an old map of Florida from 1913 we found in an antique gallery is Franklin, Tennessee on a road trip years ago. We were able to secure 1913 maps of all of the states we have lived in, and have them sprinkled throughout the house.
This bed is one of my favorite pieces of furniture of all time. I am in love with the shape! We dressed the bed with bedding from Target's new Casaluna line, which is amazing. The throw blankets aren't linkable as, the bottom old from IKEA, and top new from Homegoods.
If you have been following along since the Ada renovation, you know that we scored this faux Eames chair from a vintage shop for $50! (An Instagram follower helped me identify the manufacturer, and we learned that it is worth about $1600!) We were thinking there would not be room for the chair in this house. We are thrilled to have found a little reading nook in the guest room!
We can't wait to host more friends and family soon, and eventually, offer this house to future Airbnb guests!
