Primary Bathroom Reveal!
Our first full room reveal is here! Meaning, one room at the new home is officially done! We "completed" our new home about a month ago and moved in. While the home was complete according to the occupancy permit, there was still a punch list of "to do's". We built this home ourselves and are still finishing a myriad of final details...fireplace installation, washing machine hookup, linen closet shelves, etc. We've been slowly tackling the decor since our move in date as well, but travel to the cabin, the holidays, and a wave of sickness have delayed those efforts as well. That said, we are thrilled to have the primary bathroom fully decorated!
You may remember the design plan which we blogged a few months ago. In that post, I mentioned that we were incredibly excited for this bathroom after living in the Holland cottage for two years. That home had only one bathroom with a tiny vanity and no storage. The room itself was so narrow that Ty and I could not fit in the bathroom at the same time (and I could hardly brush my teeth at the sink when I was 9 months pregnant!). All to say, as you can imagine, this new bathroom feels luxurious! We have many empty vanity drawers, an abundance of counter space, and a roomy shower. We are so grateful!
The shower was never intended to be so large. Long story short, after the house was framed, we realized that the stool area was disproportionately large, so we moved that wall to shrink that area and lengthen the shower. Because there was not enough room for a free standing tub in this space, we wanted a large, luxurious shower for resale purposes. I originally selected Zellige tile for this room (similar to the kitchen backsplash), but due to the size of the shower, the savings to switch to ceramic was substantial. We opted to go with Bedrosian's Chloe instead. We selected the color white and installed it in a classic brick joint pattern. We splurged on the shower floor which is astar cross pattern in Carrara marble. My favorite tile in the room is the bathroom floor which is a porcelain made to look like stone, called Pietra Di Ostuni in color Grigio. The tumbled edges add a European feel to the room! We used Tec grout in color Silverado everywhere. To finish the raw edges of the tile, we installed Schluter in white. Personally, I prefer that look to tile bullnose.
When the house was framed, we walked through the upper level and noticed some unused space above the stair well. We added the shower bench there to utilize the square footage. The bench and niche ledge are both quartz, remnants from the vanity countertop. The plumbing fixtures are all from the Kohler Purist collection. Plumbing was another area where we splurged in this house and I do not regret it!
I spoke all about the wall mount faucets in this post. After living with the wall mount facets for a few weeks, I'd like to report that I love them! The countertop is so much easier to keep clean! I would definitely install them again. Ours are 4" above the counter which is perfect for the particular style we selected. Our counters are Envi Quartz in color Albatros. Our backsplash is 10" high.
Another "save" in this space was the vanity. Originally, we had planned to go with a custom wood vanity. Last minute, we switched to a stock Wayfair alternative in order to invest that money elsewhere in the house. We're really happy withthe vanity we selected! The inset drawers make it feel high end, as does the new brass hardware that I just installed (much better than the hardware it came with). But the best part? All of the storage! 9 drawers!
Speaking of the vanity, you'll notice we went with one sink instead of two. Why? Simply because we prefer it! I love having ample counter space for hair tools and makeup in the morning. I also love only having to clean one sink! With a toddler in the house, Ty and I never use the bathroom at the time. Even if we did, that's a 5 minute inconvenience I can manage.
To add balance to all of the cool tones in the room, we went with a brass mirror, brass sconces with linen shades, brass hardware, and a vintage rug. Our interior wood doors bring character to the bathroom, too!
