Top 10 Coffee Shops of 2022

Ty here. My favorite annual post (and only consistent contribution to the blogosphere other than editing) has become somewhat of a fan favorite...yes, I am looking at all 11 of you who have told me you look forward to this post each year. Post Brooks, I did not think we'd be able to make it to as many coffee shops, but we surprised ourselves. With Hannah's new role, there was much more travel and plenty of opportunities for new additions to the list! This year, we tried 45 new coffee shops. As always, any shop on this list must be a new addition to our repertoire; we try to avoid repeats! And with that, here we go...

1819 Coffee - Thompson's Station, TN

​Located just 30 minutes south of Nashville, the growing community of Thompson's Station features beautiful, rolling landscapes. The hillside, laden with horse farms and pastures, is peaceful and serene. Tucked within this community is a relatively new coffee shop, albeit juxtaposed in a structure built nearly two hundred years ago. The coffee shop sprawls and has several seating areas around the manor, which make it feel more like grabbing a cup of coffee in your living room with friends.

Plus Six One - San Diego, CA

​This ingenious concept can be found in various locations around San Diego, but most often, at Torrey Pines State Beach. The gentleman who started Plus Six One brought the idea from Australia to New York City all the way to the California Coast. An incredible host and coffee connoisseur, he cupped dozens and dozens of coffee to arrive at the best possible espresso he could find. Nothing better than a coffee and beach walk.

Persephone - Jackson Hole, WY

​Persephone's indoor + outdoor setting is aesethically pleasing, but better than that? The food and the coffee. For a region filled with copious amounts of natural beauty, there is a bit to be desired when it comes to delicious coffee. But Persephone fits the bill and then some. When in or near Jackson or Tetons, this place is an absolute must!

Revolution Roasters - Oceanside, CA

​Revolution sits on South Coast Highway just about 4 blocks from the beach. This charming town features many coffee shops-- but nobody is out-coffee-ing Revolution. Their pastries were also unbeatable. The open garage door and open air environment made for an experience draped in Californian culture. Hannah passionately recommends the avocado toast.

Holsem- San Diego, CA

​After scouring San Diego (and trying around 15 shops) over the multiple trips we've made to SD, this place takes the cake. Brooks and I hung out here for a bit while Hannah worked. The coffee was the best I've had in SD (edging out Communal by just a pinch).

Fonville Press- Alys Beach, FL

​A few years ago, the fine establishment of Fonville Press closed. Thankfully, in 2022, it was resurrected! Fonville is a tremendous place to grab a cup of coffee, eats, snacks, and is located in the most ideal location in Alys Beach. Ample indoor and outdoor seating also make this a must visit when on 30A.

Canopy- Lookout Mountain, TN

​A quaint establishment nestled on top of the community of Lookout Mountain, Canopy is a coffee house and wine bar near Covenant College. The venue also hosts a number of events and has such great community buy-in; it evokes memories of a coffee shop as a communal gathering place of yesteryear.

Moniker General - San Diego, CA

​Located in Liberty Station (and only a short 5 min drive from the airport) is Moniker General. A spacious coffee shop with (recurring theme!) wonderful outdoor seating. Great place to grab a cup or to hang out before or after your flight out of SD!

Side Bar Artisan Coffee - Grand Haven, MI

Located within Oddside in downtown Grand Haven, Side Bar features Madcap Coffee...so, needless to say we've become regulars. Grab a cold brew and take a stroll along the water front to the pier.

Kith and Kin - Santa Rosa Beach, FL

​Our favorite cold brew on 30A can be found on the west end, near Destin, at the lovely Kith and Kin. For some reason, we can't find a picture so here's a picture of a nearby beach we typically walk with our coffee (and son, who causes us to drink more coffee) in tow.
